I remember getting the infamous picture from a friend of mine and when I saw this picture of my friend from 20 years ago, David Hobbs, I told my friend who sent this to me if he can reach out to somebody in his family to let them know that there’s a program in Atlanta and I want him to come here.

My mom’s crying every night when I call her. People bash me on Facebook. I get an opportunity to come to Good Landing here in Georgia, I take it. From the house manager to the community to all the staff, everybody’s been great.

Shortly thereafter, David agreed to come. He showed up and walked through the doors of Good Landing and walked into a group I happen to be teaching on overcoming shame and I know what to expect but what I saw was a man who was full of purpose, a man who was serious about his recovery and is interested in walking out from the grips of active addiction.

I’ve been in addiction for 18 years and I’ve been clean now for 8 months. I graduated the program and I’m own staff here. That’s my way of giving back and I’m a completely different person today than I was.
